Here's How You Can Help Ellicott City After the Devastating Flood

As Howard County works to recover from the floods that killed two people and caused extensive property damage, here is what you can do to help:

Give Food
The Community Action Council of Howard County is working with Howard County to collect food donations and other items from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day at 8920 Route 108 in Columbia, Maryland.

The organization is collecting canned food with pop tops, single-serve snacks and energy bars, paper plates and napkins, plastic forks and spoons, toiletries, diapers, baby food, water, can openers and money. For more information, call 410-313-6440.

Local football teams will collect food donations Monday from 4 to 7 at Howard High School (8700 Old Annapolis Road in Columbia, Maryland), Howard High Football tweeted

Give Money
The United Way teamed up with Howard County to set up the ECStrong fund to help those affected by the floods. You can donate online or text “ECStrong” to 51555.

To help historic businesses that sustained damage in the flooding, you can donate money to  the Ellicott City Partnership.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the store All Time Toys recover from the storm, GoFundMe spokesman Bart Jackson said. The store is owned by Jason Barnes, who helped form a human chain to save a woman trapped in her car amid rushing water, in a rescue caught on video. The GoFundMe page had raised more than $10,000 toward a $20,000 goal by 3 p.m. Monday.

Volunteer Soon
Howard County soon will need volunteers to assist in cleanup efforts, a county spokeswoman said. For now, officials are urging residents to stay away from a large no-access zone that is closed to the public because of safety concerns. A Facebook post from the county shows that area.
