Reward Offered in Cancer Patient's Beating Death in Illinois

The patient was approached by a man who hit her in the head with an unknown object, police said

Cancer Treatment Centers of America is offering a $25,000 reward for information in the death of a Missouri patient beaten to death outside her Illinois hospital residence.

Shannon Vincel, of Springfield, Missouri, was sitting outside the facility in Zion Monday when she was approached by a man who hit her in the head with an unknown object, police said.

Authorities have said the attacker was dressed in dark clothing and ran off.

Vincel suffered "severe head trauma" and died the next day.

Vincel's sister, Fabienne Vincel, says she hopes the reward money "leads to the quick capture" of the attacker.

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America said it has since increased security as a cautionary measure and is providing onsite emotional support for patients and staff.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim involved in the tragic incident outside of Guest Quarters West,” the spokesperson said. “Our number one priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our patients, guests and employees.”

Police said they only have a vague description of the attacker, but signs on the property show the facility is under the watch of surveillance cameras.
