U.S. Military Drops 50 Tons of Ammo to Syrian Rebels: Officials

The U.S. military airdropped 50 tons of ammunition to Syrian rebels who are fighting ISIS on Sunday, NBC News reported.

The supply load, which included AK-47 rounds, hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades and mortar rounds, was dropped in ISIS controlled territory in the northern part of Syria, senior defense and military officials told NBC News.

The supply targeted the Syrian Arab Coalition (SAC), a recently formed group that was quickly vetted to make sure their only objective is to defeat ISIS and not the Syrian military or the regime of President Bashar Assad, the officials told NBC News.

The airdrop comes just days after the Obama administration terminated its "train and equip" program that produced only a handful of Syrian rebels who joined the battle against ISIS, one senior official said.
