85-Year-Old Woman Sexually Assaulted in San Jose Home Invasion; Stolen Car Crashes Into Home

A 15-year-old boy was arrested and another young man was at large early Tuesday morning in San Jose after an 85-year-old woman was sexually assaulted, and the pair allegedly slammed a stolen SUV into the side of a garage, police said.

San Jose police officer Albert Morales said the suspects broke into the home in the 1500 block of Sunshadow Lane before 4 a.m. - each carrying knives - and quickly assaulted the elderly woman while her husband was home.

"It's never, never easy to report these kind of cases or to investigate them," Morales said. "It just turns your stomach."

Police believe it was a random attack.

After the assault, the pair hopped into the couple's SUV, Morales said. The California Highway Patrol noticed the vehicle had made an "unsafe lane change" and began following it as the driver exited at the next offramp at Capitol Expressway then turned south onto Senter Road.

When the driver turned on Singleton Road, the CHP said he lost control and crashed into the garage of the home, which was vacant. Two CHP officers drew their guns, aiming them at the crashed SUV. The 15-year-old passenger was stuck inside and was arrested. The driver, who may be between 17 and 25 years old, ran way.

Witness Lucy Quintero described the scene as tense.

"Oh my God, I thought they were going to shoot him," she said.

Police are still looking for the driver, last seen bleeding and hopping over a fence.
