Questions About Atlantic City's Future Remain

Many questions remain unanswered about Atlantic City's future even after emergency managers appointed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to get the gambling resort's finances under control have issued their initial report.

The managers want to cut $10 million from a budget that has already been reduced by $30 million, make spending cuts and lay off 20 to 30 percent of the city's workforce of 1,100.

Wall Street analysts fear the city might default on its debt, and talks with employee unions and bondholders are likely to be difficult.

Atlantic City's municipal budget has a shortfall of $101 million, with an additional $47 million shortfall for its schools.

And a package of financial assistance bills for the city and its eight casinos remains stalled in the state Legislature.
