What to Watch as RNC Rules Committee Gets Set to Meet Thursday

Opponents of Donald Trump may make it harder for him to claim the nomination

The Republican Convention Rules Committee will meet Thursday as opponents of Donald Trump will be pushing for changes to make it harder for him to claim the nomination, NBC News reported.

The highest-profile change expected to come up is being pushed by Colorado Delegate Kendal Unruh, that would allow delegates to vote their “conscience” instead of the candidate to whom they’re bound.

There is also a faction that exists that argue party rules don’t require delegates to be bound to the candidate based on primary results. This is important because if that is true, then delegates could easily vote against Trump and deny him the majority support of delegates.

Taking away the status of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada — which gives them preference in the presidential nominating process — ix also expected to be debated.
