Spice maker McCormick is recalling 1,032 cases of ground oregano due to possible salmonella contamination.

The company is voluntarily recalling McCormick® Ground Oregano, 0.75 oz bottle, UPC 0-523561-6 with code dates BEST BY AUG 21 16 H and AUG 22 16 H.

"Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses," the FDA said in a statement on their website.

The FDA said the potential risk was brought to McCormick’s attention by the FDA during routine testing and that the recall does not impact any other McCormick Ground, Whole or Oregano Leaves products.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the finding.

The ground oregano was shipped to 41 states and 10 countries outside of the United States. The only states that did not receive the shipments, according to the release, were Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island and Wyoming.

Internationally it was shipped to the following countries: Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Indonesia, Jamaica, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand, and Virgin Islands.

Customers who purchased the oregano can contact McCormick Consumer Affairs at 800-632-5847 for a refund or replacement.
