Man Killed Outside Philly Anti-Violence Concert

A night out for peace turned deadly in Philadelphia.

A man died after being shot outside of an anti-violence Hip-Hop concert in the Fairmount Park section of the city Wednesday night.

A witness told police the 20-year-old victim got into an argument with an unidentified man in the parking lot outside the Dell Music Center on Ridge Avenue and Huntingdon Drive while they were both walking towards the venue around 8:30 p.m. The unidentified man then pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the victim.

Police say the gunman then fled the scene in a white Chevy Impala.

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died around 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

Police said an argument over a woman possibly led to the shooting.

The "Peace Awareness Benefit Concert" was taking place at the Dell Music Center at the time of the shooting. According to organizers, the aim of the concert, which featured local rap and Hip-Hop musicians, was to "promote peace in the city" and "bring a positive message about working together to break down barriers that promote violence."

The concert, which drew about 600 people, was not interrupted by the shooting. No one else was hurt in the incident.
