80-Year-Old Punched at Applebee's for Asking Man to Stop Cursing: Police

A central Florida man is accused of punching an 80-year-old man who asked him to stop cursing and talking about women's private parts at an Applebee's bar.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the man was having dinner at Applebee's in Port Orange on Sunday night when he heard 26-year-old Mikie Sawyer repeatedly using expletives.

According to police, the man leaned in close to Sawyer and told him "in my Germany, you don't speak in such a manner."

"I don’t care where you are from, whether it be Russia or Dutch," Sawyer replied, according to the report.

Sawyer told the man to go to the other side of the bar. When the man didn't move, Sawyer punched him in the face and pushed him backward, knocking him down.

Police arrived and Sawyer told officers he pushed the man but said the man punched him. Witnesses backed up the older man's version on events, the report said.

Sawyer was charged with battery on a person over age 65 and disorderly conduct, and has since been released on bail. It is not known whether he has an attorney.
