Delta Bumps Passengers So UF Basketball Team Can Get to Storrs

On one of the busiest flying days of the year, Delta Air Lines bumped passengers heading from Florida to Atlanta so the University of Florida men's basketball team could get to Connecticut in time for Monday night’s game against UConn.

The Gainesville Sun reports that maintenance issues grounded the team's charter plane on Sunday afternoon and Delta cancelled a commercial flight to accommodate the team.

A Delta spokesman told the newspaper that passengers on Delta Connection flight 5059 from Gainesville Regional Airport to Atlanta were either placed on other flights or given vouchers valid for use on future trips.

One person Tweeted last night that his brother flew out early Monday morning.

Team spokesman Denver Parler told the Sun he wasn't aware that passengers were displaced. He said about 35 people affiliated with the team were on the 50-seat plane.

UConn won the game with a buzzer beater that has fans buzzing this morning.

With this win, the UConn Huskies advance to 8-0.
