Court Could Keep Hernandez from Getting Patriots' Bonus

A lawyer representing families of his alleged victims is asking a judge to block the payment.

A lawyer for the families of two men who were allegedly gunned down by former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez will ask a judge to bar the Patriots from paying Hernandez a $3.2 million bonus.

A court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Hernandez is accused of fatally shooting Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston, Massachusetts in 2012, weeks before he signed a 5-year, $40 million contract.

Prosecutors said the Bristol, Connecticut native shot the men after one of the men accidentally spilled his drink on Hernandez at a Boston nightclub.

Attorney William Kennedy said the Patriots have challenged Hernandez's right to receive the bonus, but he wants a court order should the team be ordered to pay Hernandez in an arbitration hearing.

The team released Hernandez after his arrest in the 2013 death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Lloyd's body was found in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, not far from Hernandez's home.
