‘Carlos the Jackal' Faces New Trial Over '74 Grenade Attack

The explosion at a Paris arcade killed two people and injured 34

The infamous political terrorist known as Carlos the Jackal was due back in court Monday over a four-decade-old deadly grenade attack at a Paris shopping arcade, NBC News reported.

Venezuelan Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, 67, was once the world's most-wanted fugitive, but has been serving a life sentence in France for murders and attacks committed on behalf of the Palestinian cause in the 1970s and 1980s.

The 1974 attack for which he is now on trial left two people killed, 34 injured and devastated the mall. It took place before Ramirez Sanchez was dubbed "the Jackal."

Ramirez Sanchez has pleaded he is innocent and denied involvement, but an Arab language news magazine published a 1979 interview with a man it identified as Ramirez Sanchez who claimed responsibility for the attack.
