96-Year-Old Woman Attacked, Sexually Assaulted Inside Home

Police are on the hunt for a man who they say attacked and sexually assaulted a 96-year-old woman inside her New Jersey home.

The woman, who we are not naming in order to protect her identity, was outside her Pleasantville, N.J. home Saturday morning getting the newspaper. That’s when family members believe a masked man went into her house.

When she went back inside, police say the suspect attacked.

“She said he knocked her on the floor and tried to strangle her,” said the woman’s daughter-in law.

Police say the man then sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

“She’s very well shook up,” said the woman’s son. “I’m a former police officer, and I had to just maintain myself.”

The woman was badly bruised after the attack and was taken to the hospital. The woman says she saw her attacker stealing items from her dresser though she’s unsure what he stole. Potential evidence collected at the hospital was sent to the State Police lab for analysis.

“Basically, we’ve dropped everything that we’re doing at the station just to follow up on this,’ said Pleasantville Police Chief Jose Ruiz.

The victim is now staying with relatives who are hoping the man responsible will soon be brought to justice.

“Terrible person,” said the victim’s daughter-in-law. “You don’t deserve to be out here in society.”
