CEOs, NCAA “Deeply Concerned” Over New Indiana Law

Just days before the highly anticipated Final Four men's basketball tournament tips off in the NCAA's home city of Indianapolis, the organization's president told NBC News that he is "deeply concerned" over Indiana's controversial new "religious freedom" law, which critics say could be used to justify anti-gay discrimination. "Our core values are built around notions of diversity and inclusion," Mark Emmert said. "And anything that might create an environment within which we can't maximize those values is something that we take very, very seriously." The CEOs of nine major Indiana-based companies — including pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co. and Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield — wrote a letter to Pence and other state leaders, saying they were concerned for "the reputation of our state" and their employees. Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy banned state-sponsored travel to Indiana over the legislation, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel tried wooing Indiana businesses to his city.
