Hackers Steal 1.2 Billion User Names, Passwords

Russian hackers have amassed what may be the largest collection of stolen internet credentials that includes 1.2 billion names and passwords and 500 million email addresses, The New York Times reported on Tuesday. Hold Security, a Wisconsin-based information security company that uncovered the stash and hacking ring behind it, found that the technique used to hack the private information is well-known and fairly easy to protect against, but thousands of websites have yet to do so.
