Police are investigating a crash that killed a 17-year-old out for a ride on a dirt bike.

Bobby Lattimer was struck by an SUV at the intersection of Hemswell Lane and Carmelita Drive in Potomac, Md., Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Neighbors said the crash is upsetting.

"It's really tragic," said Karen Greenzaid. "I feel bad for the woman that hit him, 'cause she's a neighbor and a mother herself. The whole thing's just really sad."

The accident provides a warning for all in the warmer summer months, police said.

"There are a lot of turns in the roads, visibility is limited cause of shrubbery," said Cpl. Gary Lewis. of the Montgomery County Police Department. "There's a lot of things that come into play when you're in a residential area."

Authorities said they don't believe Lattimer was wearing a helmet.
