Washington area children definitely have more tidings of comfort and joy this holiday season.

In an effort to spread holiday cheer to those who need it most, Michael and Son hosted a Holiday Skate Party for 100 less fortunate kids in our community this month.

The party, thrown at the Kettler Iceplex earlier this December, included pizza and drinks for the kids and their families. Michael and Son also purchased individualized gift packages for each child.

“The holidays are important to us here, and we like to share the joy,” said Basim M. Mansour, president of Michael and Son.

Michael and Son worked with two non-profit children’s groups for the occasion: Little Samaritans of Washington D.C., which serves the district’s at-risk youth, and Our Military Kids, which assists military families with educational funding and grants.

“This year I’d like to send a special holiday thank you to all our servicemen and women,” said Mansour. “After meeting and having a lot of fun with a lot of your family members in the ring, it made me think how terrible it must be for you to be apart from each other.”

Michael and Son hosts several community events each year, and its holiday party has become a community occasion.

“Hopefully next year,” said Mansour, addressing the nation’s servicemen and women, “you guys can all be together and we can do it with you.”
