A former Prince George's County Board of Education member is set to stand trial Wednesday morning after allegedly obtaining free school lunches under false pretense.
According to the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office, Lynette Mundey collected more than $1,300 in free lunches between 2010 and 2015.
During a 2014 routine audit of the school meals program, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) discovered five of its employees received free or reduced-price lunches for their children after underreporting their income.
Mundey received free lunches valued at $2.65 per day, even though her income was beyond the $40,000 cap to qualify for the free meals program.
Mundey is charged with theft under $10,000, filing a false public assistance application, welfare fraud and related charges, police said.
Along with Mundey, GAO employees Jamilah Reid, Barbara Rowley, Charlene Savoy and Tracy Williams, as well as James Pickney, husband of a GAO employee, obtained almost $11,5000 in reduced lunches.
