Your Thanksgiving Travel Weather Forecast

Today could be the coldest Thanksgiving we've had in about a decade, according to Storm Team4.

Winds will slowly diminish Thursday, but until then, wind chills will be in the teens and 20s much of the time, Meteorologist Veronica Johnson reports.

Thanksgiving Travel: Storms Not as Bad as Feared

Although some snow was reported Wednesday afternoon throughout the region, most of it didn't stick.

Maryland State Police declared a snow emergency in far western Maryland Wednesday due to the driving conditions and parking wsa prohibited on roads designated snow emergency routes in Garrett County.

At the region's three major airports, delays were worst Wednesday at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, where some departures and arrivals showed delays of 30 minutes to an hour. Fewer delays were reported at Dulles International and Reagan National airports in northern Virginia, and by the end of the evening, all flights were in.

The massive storm dumped primarily rain on the Washington region, causing slowdowns but no major gridlock. Farther west, the National Park Service closed Skyline Drive because of icy conditions.

An accident on southbound Interstate 95 caused a four-mile backup in northern Virginia. The Virginia Department of Transportation reported six-mile a backup on northbound Interstate 95, but such delays aren't unusual there.

If you're traveling to New York or Boston, you'll still encounter moderate to heavy rain Wednesday evening.

If you're traveling northwest into Pennsylvania or western New York State, you'll find snow showers and much colder weather.

Expert Advice on Thanksgiving Travel

If you're headed to New England, you'll encounter stronger winds by late Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day.

No other major storms will cause any travel delays across the rest of the nation.

Cold Turkey (Day):

Thanksgiving Day will have plenty of sunshine, but temperatures will remain about 20 degrees below average with highs struggling to reach the mid-to-upper 30s.

For shoppers heading out Thanksgiving night or early Friday morning, plan on temperatures in the 20s. This cold high pressure center will begin to head for the Eastern Seaboard on Friday, allowing for a bit of a warm-up as the weekend arrives.
