Metro Worker Rescued After Fainting in Foggy Bottom Metro Escalator Pit

An escalator repairman was hoisted out of an escalator pit at the Foggy Bottom Metro station after he suffered a medical emergency.

D.C. Fire and EMS says the man was working in the confined space when he fainted. Fire officials initially said the man fell into the pit.

Firefighters pumped air into the pit to cool it off while they tried to reach the man.

A video posted on the fire department's Twitter page shows the man being hoisted out of the small hole in the sidewalk.

The man was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
