Police are investigating the death of a woman in Silver Spring, Md.

The woman's body was found early Tuesday morning in a stairwell of an apartment building in the 13000 block of Castle Boulevard, police said.

Investigators have not confirmed her identity. She is described as a young black woman who stood 5 foot 4 and weighed about 160 pounds. She had medium length black hair and a dark mole next to her left earlobe. Both of her ears were pierced multiple times. She wore blue jeans and a T-shirt with a picture of a guitar and the word "Fender." She also wore a long, silver-colored necklace and two silver-colored  rings -- one with a purple stone and one with upside and downside hearts.

The medical examiner's preliminary results determined her death to be a homicide attributed to multiple injuries.
