Woman Struck, Killed on Capital Beltway

She was struck about 1 a.m. Monday on the Inner Loop past Allentown Road, near Joint Base Andrews

A woman was struck and killed on the Capital Beltway in Temple Hills, Maryland, shortly after midnight Monday.

The victim was standing on the Inner Loop in the second lane from the left when she was struck, Maryland State Police said. It happened in the area of Allentown Road (exit 9), near Joint Base Andrews.

It was not immediately clear why the victim was standing in the roadway. Police said there were no disabled vehicles near the crash to indicate that she might have been driving a car that broke down.

The victim has not yet been positively identified, but police said she was 40. Prince George's County Fire & EMS declared her dead at the scene.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a GMC Yukon, remained at the crash site. He told authorities he tried but could not avoid striking the woman.
