D.C. Police investigate the murder of a transgender person.

Police are investigating a fatal stabbing at a Metrobus stop Thursday evening involving a transgender victim.

The victim was stabbed at the corner of East Capitol Street and Sycamore Road in northeast D.C.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the victim was stabbed in the head.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Police said there were signs of a struggle, but it's not clear if it was a robbery or a hate crime.

Sources told News4 that a passerby witnessed the assault and signalled to a Metro police officer for help. The officer rendered first aid while the passerby chased after the attacker, but the attacker escaped.

The victim was identified as JaParker Jones, who also went by the names Deoni and Logan.

Police released surveillance showing a person of interest approaching the bus stop, a black man with medium complexion and a beard who appears to be in his 30s and was wearing blue jeans and a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt.

    No arrests have been made.
