Woman Robbed Outside of Home After Night at Casino

Fairfax County police said a woman was robbed as she and her husband were returning from an evening at a casino late Saturday night, and one man was shot as the suspects tried to flee.

Police said the couple arrived at their home in the 5000 block of Kenerson Drive after a night at the Maryland Live casino shortly before midnight on Saturday. As they approached their front door, a woman grabbed the victim and took her purse.

Due to the commotion, other family members came rushing out of the house and began to chase the suspect. The female suspect fled to a nearby vehicle.

Someone in the vehicle fired a gun at the pursuing family, striking a 66-year-old woman in the arm. She was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. She will need surgery to remove the bullet from her arm.

No further description of the suspects was available.

Twice in the past several months, casino patrons have been followed home and robbed. The casino has top-notch security, with many hidden cameras -- including a tag reader for cars that leave the casino.

Still, casino officials warned patrons to keep their own safety in mind when they leave the grounds.

There's a community policing station located in the casino, said "if you don't feel safe, if you are not comfortable walking to the car, you can request an escort," said Justin Mulcahy of Anne Arundel County police.

"Follow your gut, trust your gut," Mulcahy said. "If you feel that you are being followed, if you feel that something isn't right, it probably isn't."
