Woman Rescued From Metro Tracks

Tried to get to opposite platform

Riders on Metro saw an unusual and frightening sight Wednesday night. A woman was rescued from the tracks at the Metro Center station after trying to cross to the opposite platform.

Metro officials say the woman realized she was on the wrong platform and decided to jump the track to get to the other side. But once she had hopped down, she decided it wasn’t such a good idea and froze between the two sets of tracks.

Surveillance video shows the woman jumping on to the tracks and reaching back for her red bag sitting on the platform. She then stepped on the third rail to get onto the panel of lights between the tracks before she stopped, News4's Richard Jordan reported.

Emergency crews were called in to rescue her.

According to Metro, the closest train was a half-mile away from Metro Center.

The woman is from France and is not familiar with the transit system, Metro said.

She was not arrested and not fined. Metro called the incident a misunderstanding.

Metro reminds riders that if they see an item or person on the tracks, they should not jump on the tracks themselves but contact a station manager instead.
