Woman Rams Another Car Causing Fatal Crash in Maryland: Sheriff

A woman driving under the influence of alcohol intentionally ran another car off the road early Thursday, causing a fatal crash, according to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office.

Lindsay Leanne Canter of Lexington Park and Ronald Joseph Ball of Huntingtown were racing northbound on Maryland Route 4 about 1:30 a.m. when Canter decided to rearend Ball's Nissan 370Z with her Ford Mustang as they crossed Rousby Hall Road in Lusby, according to the sheriff.

The collision sent Ball's car off the roadway and rolling down an embankment, authorities said. It came to a stop on its roof.

Canter, 32, continued driving, but deputies stopped her nearby a short time later.

Ball, also 32, was taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital, when he was pronounced dead by emergency room staff.

Alcohol "undoubtedly" factored in the crash, according to the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office charged Canter with DUI homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and numerous other DUI charges.

“Please do your part to help prevent an event such as this from destroying your holiday season this year and in the future," Sheriff Mike Evans said in a news release. "If you are hosting or attending a party, be sure those that are consuming alcoholic beverages do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle and kill or seriously injure themselves or someone else.”
