Woman Killed by Minivan on Way to Church

Driver didn't stop, police said

Mary Bernice Collins, 59, was on her way to church when she was hit and killed by a minivan Saturday evening.

A dark-colored Dodge Caravan was going north on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie, Md., when the driver lost control for unknown reasons, went over the curb onto the sidewalk and struck Collins, according to witnesses.  The minivan did not stop at the scene and kept going northbound, police said.

Police said they found Collins lying in the grass near the front porch of 7437 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard at approximately 6:52 p.m.  Anne Arundel County Fire Department paramedics came and then brought her to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead due to her injuries.

After searching the area, the police caught up with the driver, 26-year-old Matthew Evan Norwood.  He was held for investigation.

Police say speed does not seem to have been a factor in the incident.  Charges are pending against Norwood as the investigation continutes.
