Woman Killed, Another Injured in DC Hit-and-Run

A hit-and-run driver struck two women in Northeast D.C. Thursday evening, killing one of them.

The driver struck the women in the 1600 block of Kenilworth Avenue NE near the D.C.-Maryland border about 6:20 p.m., D.C. police said. Both victims were in the crosswalk at the time.

Sherron Pressley, 51, died at the hospital. The other woman has injuries that are life-threatening, police said.

Pressley's mother told News4 she loved people and her family and she was trying to get back into accounting.

Friends of the other woman hurt say she suffered a possible injury to her spine and she will have a long road to recovery.

"It's hard. She's supposed to be scheduled to have surgery ... today, so we won't know really until she comes out of surgery," her friend Harry Harman said.

"She's got a lot of wounds on her head, arms, legs. She's in a lot of pain," he said.

Police said the driver was making a left turn onto Kenilworth Avenue NE from Eastern Avenue NE when the women were struck.

Police do not yet have a description of the vehicle, but they say it was last seen traveling southbound on Kenilworth Avenue.
