Woman Grabbed, Assaulted and Robbed Along Metropolitan Branch Trail

A woman reported being pulled off her bike by a stranger, then robbed and assaulted along a popular commuter trail in D.C.

The incident was reported Wednesday during rush hour along the Metropolitan Branch Trail between S and T streets NE, in the Eckinton neighborhood.

The woman told police her attacker -- described as a man in his late teens or early 20s -- repeatedly struck her before stealing her wallet and fleeing from the scene.

Just a year ago, a man riding his bike along the same trail was assaulted and robbed by a group of 10 men. After that incident, police increased patrols in the area and crimes decreased.

Another man told News4 he has been targeted along the trail as well.

"Four kids tried to knock me off my bike a year-and-a-half ago, I called the cops and they did absolutely nothing," he said.

Long-time users of the trail say they can almost predict an increase in robberies and assaults after the clocks are turned back for Dayling Saving Time.
