Part of Rock Creek Parkway was closed Saturday morning after a woman was found unconscious under a bridge.
Investigators say the woman was found by a bicyclist shortly before 7 a.m. beneath the Charles Glover Memorial Bridge and was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No identifying information about her was immediately available.
Traffic on Rock Creek Parkway in the direction of the National Zoo was diverted onto Massachusetts Avenue during the investigation of the scene.
Law enforcement sources told News4 Saturday afternoon that the woman fell off the bridge, though it was unclear how that happened. The investigation is continuing.
