Detra Martin, 48, Found Dead Inside Southeast D.C. Home

A 48-year-old woman found unconscious inside her Southeast Washington home Thursday night was strangled to death, according to police.

Detra Martin's son found her unresponsive inside her bedroom on Southern Avenue SE around 11 p.m. with visible markings around her neck, and a belt nearby.

Martin was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"My mother meant the world to me," her son told News4. "She was the only person in my corner. It didn't matter if I was right or wrong."

A medical examiner ruled the cause of Detra Martin's death as asphyxia due to strangulation.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that may lead to an arrest in Martin's death. Call 202-727-9099 if you have any information.
