Authorities said an elderly woman has been found dead after a small fire in her home in northeast Washington.
D.C. Fire Department spokesman Alan Etter said firefighters responded to an automatic alarm about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of 34th Street in northeast Washington.
No smoke or fire was visible, but firefighters investigating the alarm entered the row home through a second-story window.
Etter said in the kitchen, firefighters found a woman dead on the floor, food burning on the stove and light to moderate smoke.
Firefighters put out the small blaze. The cause of the woman's death is under investigation.
