Woman Struck By Train After Tripping on Tracks

A woman suffered serious injuries after she was struck by a CSX freight train in Beltsville, Md., Prince George's County police said.

The woman was trying to cross the railroad tracks in a heavy industrial park in the 5100 block of Sycamore Road at 11:30 a.m. when she tripped. She tried to get up but couldn't for an unknown reason. Her husband and other bystanders tried to get her off the tracks and alert the approaching train, but the rescue effort was unsuccessful, according to Prince George's County Fire and EMS.

She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The woman works in the area and was crossing the tracks on her way back from getting lunch on Baltimore Avenue, witnesses said.
