Weather Alert: Slushy Roads Create Hazards for Drivers; Mild, Sunny Day Ahead

Drivers face hazardous conditions on Sunday morning as slush covers the roads, but a sunny, mild day is ahead.

Several crashes and spin-outs have been reported amid wet conditions, including a multiple vehicle crash on MD-100, a crash that closed George Washington Parkway near Spout Run Parkway and a serious crash on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway near the Baltimore Washington Parkway.

For areas north and west of D.C., Storm Team4 meteorologist Somara Theodore said the greatest concern is the potential for refreeze early Sunday morning as temperatures farther north will be much lower.

"Roads will be more slick than slushy so take your time and know that tomorrow will be dry and sunnier so if it can wait, it’s probably worth it to wait it out," Theodore said.

Sunday morning will bring temperatures in the 30s and fog. By afternoon, expect sunshine and temperatures in the upper 40s.

Monday will bring more rain, and temperatures will be in the low 50s.

We'll get a reprieve from all the precipitation Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll also be back to spring-like weather, with temperatures in the low 70s.
