Car Goes Over Guardrail in Aspen Hill

No injuries after car leaves road

The passengers in this vehicle were lucky to get out alive after their car jumped a guardrail on Norbeck Road near Westbury Road in Aspen Hill.

Driving in the D.C. area became an increasingly tricky operation Saturday morning after a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain made roads difficult to traverse.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the area until 1 p.m., with freezing rain changing over to rain. The latest forecast calls for all precipitation to stop before sunset. Motorists are urged to postpone their travels until either Saturday afternoon or Sunday if at all possible.

Earlier Saturday, a section of Interstate 295 southbound was closed to traffic after a D.C. police car caught fire near exit 1. The fire was extinguished with no injuries reported. Traffic was briefly re-routed onto South Capitol Street or Suitland Parkway before the road re-opened.
