Paddle Boat Employees Rescued From Tidal Basin

Boats overturned after four boaters were rescued

Three people retrieving a stuck paddle boat went into the water Monday afternoon after four boaters were rescued.

Two paddle boats each carrying two people became stuck against the Kutz Bridge along Independence Avenue because of the wind. After paddle boat rental employees rescued the boaters and returned them to land, employees went back to retrieve the stuck boats. At that point three employees somehow fell into the water.

Other employees and passersby rescued the employees from the water.

One of the employees who went into the water was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The four people on the rented boats did not go into the water as originally reported.

A red flag warning is in effect for the D.C. metropolitan area until 8 p.m. due to the high winds and dry conditions.
