Who Are D.C. Tourists?

Study Examines Top U.S. Vacation Destinations

Tourists seem to be as much a part of the D.C. scenery as the monuments in the summer. Apparently, this fact is not just in the heads of frustrated inhabitants and commuters.

According to a study, Washington, D.C., was the fifth most visited vacation destination this past summer.

TripCase, a mobile travel management application, analyzed where Americans flew for their vacations over the summer and only New York, Orlando, Las Vegas and Chicago welcomed more tourists than D.C.

Now, exactly who are these vacationers that seem to crowd the city during the hottest months of the year? The study examined the originating locations for travelers who flew to Washington, D.C., and it looks like our city hosts a geographically diverse group of tourists. Los Angeles provided the highest number of visitors followed by Dallas/Ft. Worth. Boston, Chicago and Atlanta rounded out the list.

While the influx of tourists can make even the most jaded residents take notice of all D.C. has to offer, some just want to get away. TripCase also looked at the locations that locals fled to over the summer. Orlando was the top location that D.C. vacationers flew to. Chicago, Atlanta, Boston and Las Vegas were also in the top five.
