White House Wall Jumper Shot, Killed in Pa. Courthouse

A sheriff's deputy in Chester County, Pennsylvania, shot and killed an armed man previously accused of jumping a wall at the White House in March, NBC10 in Philadelphia reported.

Curtis Smith, 34, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, entered the Chester County Justice Center with a knife and slashed a deputy, prompting another deputy to shoot him, District Attorney Tom Hogan said.

"I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna get ya!" Smith yelled as he entered the building, according to witness Reiley Aikman.

Smith was pronounced dead at a hospital.

"Unfortunately, because of incidents like this across the nation, we have learned how to deal with an attack at the courthouse," Hogan told reporters. "No one else was injured. The sheriffs did their job."

Smith, who had a preliminary hearing on burglary, assault and harrassment charges scheduled for October, was detained by the Secret Service in March after allegedly climbing over the outer perimeter stone wall at a vehicle entrance at the White House at 15th and E streets NW, NBC10 reported. He told an officer he wanted to pass a message to President Barack Obama, according to court documents.

He was charged with unlawful entry and agreed to stay away from the property for six months so the charge could be dismissed.

Hogan said a motive for the courthouse attack wasn't immediately clear.

Smith's attorney told NBC10 his client was supposed to get counseling before his next hearing and called his death "really tragic."

NBC10 has reached out to Smith's attorney for comment.

The deputy who was attacked was treated for arm and hand wounds, NBC10 reported.
