Whale Carcass Washes Up in Ocean City

That foul smell in Ocean City, Md.? It's emanating from a 25-foot-long whale carcass that washed ashore Thursday afternoon.

A beach patrol official said the tide carried the carcass ashore at about 5:15 p.m. near Sixth Street.

Employees at a boardwalk store told WBAL-TV that there is a foul stench in the area.

The coast guard will try to pull it out to sea. Crews tied a lasso to the creature's tail Thursday evening in preparation.

Another whale carcass greeted beachgoers last week at Dewey Beach.  That whale was a rare North Atlantic right whale which was 45 feet long and weighed about 60,000 pounds.
