Weekend Metro Service Cuts May Be Coming

Metro needs to shrink its budget for the coming fiscal year by $74 million and one of the ways it might do that is by reducing the frequency of its trains on weekends.

Under the budget proposal, trains would come around five to eight minutes less often on Saturdays and Sundays.

Metro's board also briefly considered raising the price at its park-and-ride lots by $1, but the board members from suburban areas shot that idea down.

Whichever way Metro eventually chooses to balance its budget, one thing's for sure –- fares will not be going up. The board ruled that out, saying they didn't want to raise fares two years in a row.
