Website Helps Residents Rent Out Their Parking Spots

Service started in U.K.

A British website wants to help Washingtonians park their cars.

The website ParkatMyHouse.com allows private residents or businesses to rent free parking spaces out online.

The Washington Examiner reports the company has been expanding its service to East Coast cities, including Washington.

The idea is to create a marketplace for people with an extra spot to make money renting it out to drivers who need it.  Renters can choose how long they want to make the spot available - for a day, by the month, or longer.

One local listing offers a spot in a Dupont Circle alley for $250 a month.  Another poster is renting out a spot up in Glover Park for $300 a month.

Right now, offerings in the D.C. region are pretty sparse.  But it seems like the service has potential: in the U.K., the site is brimming with listing of driveways and garage spots for rent near sports arenas and airports.

The website was founded by a math graduate student in 2006, Anthony Eskinazi. This past year, the company received a large investment from German automaker BMW.
