Suspect in 1989 Landover Murder Arrested in Georgia

Wayne Randolph Gilgeours, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Philbert Jones

The suspect in a 1989 murder in Landover, Md., has been arrested in Georgia, authorities announced Monday.

Wayne Randolph Gilgeours, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Philbert Jones.

Authorities say Gilgeours was using an ID with another name when he was pulled over Wednesday for a minor traffic violation in Georgia.

A state trooper determined the ID was fradulent and scanned Gilgeours' fingerprints, at which point he learned Gilgeours was wanted in Prince George's County for first-degree murder.

Gilgeours was arrested at the scene without incident. He is being held in Georgia and is awaiting extradition.

Detectives believe the motive in the 1989 murder was drug-related. The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound May 23, 1989 in the 1100 block of Nalley Road in Landover.

Police obtained a warrant for Gilgeours May 31, 1989, but say he fled the state and had evaded capture until last week.
