New York Ave. Opens for Morning Rush

Water main break impacts commuters

Crews worked through the night to fix a broken water main in Northeast in time for the morning commute.

A 12-inch water main in the 1600 block of New York Avenue near the Montana Avenue circle broke at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, causing the asphalt to buckle in the eastbound lanes. Eastbound traffic is detoured around the break, making a mess of the morning commute.

Pepco cut power to the traffic signals in the area, affecting westbound traffic as well.

The D.C. Water and Sewer Authority worked on repairs, and the eastbound lanes reopened just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
