Water Main Break Closes Part of Route 123

Road closed completely for several hours

It was a tough morning for drivers who travel through Tysons Corner due to a busted water main on the eastbound side of Route 123.  The evening rush won't be any better.

The road was completely shut down for several hours between International Drive and the Beltway. Police later re-opened the  westbound lanes, but inbound traffic was still being detoured at International Drive.

The burst caused a large hole to form in the middle of the eastbound lanes.

VDOT is detouring Tysons Corner traffic in the area. Starting at 2 p.m. other nearby roads will also be detoured to keep traffic moving.

Chain Bridge Road north is closed with a detour in effect while utility crews repair pipes. However, one lane of Chain Bridge Road north is expected to open by the evening rush hour. Expect delays.

Starting at 2 p.m., all lanes of Tysons Boulevard will close from Chain Bridge Road to Galleria Drive to help move traffic through the area. All Galleria Drive traffic near Chain Bridge Road will be directed to the Dulles Toll Road. Southbound Chain Bridge Road traffic turning onto Tysons Boulevard will be detoured to International Drive.

Motorists should avoid the area and instead use Leesburg Pike (Route 7) or the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267).

Following the water line repair, the road will be repaved. All lanes are expected to reopen by Wednesday morning.
