The intersection of S. Van Dorn Street at S. Pickett Street closed at around 8 a.m. following the break.
A water main break left an Alexandria intersection flooded Monday morning.
Crews were called to the intersection of South Van Dorn Street and South Pickett Street shortly before 8 a.m. Water flowing from the 12-inch main has been shut off, and police plan to reopen the streets affected by the break.
South Van Dorn Street was closed from just north of Eisenhower Avenue to just south of Edsall Road. South Pickett Street was also impassable at South Van Dorn Street, police confirmed.
America Water crews have not pinpointed the location of the break, but they have been able to isolate the area.
Businesses on the west side of S. Pickett Street will be without water for six to eight hours.
Drivers are advised to use northbound I-395 as an alternate, taking either the Duke Street or Edsall Road exits.
Officials have not said how long repairs are expected to take.
