The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission warns area residents that flushable, pre-moistened wipes actually are clogging pipes, The Washington Post reported.

With aging infrastructure, the systems can’t handle the wipes, even though their companies say they can.

Over the past year, crews with D.C. Water have spent hundreds of man-hours removing stuck wipes from pipes and pumps, The Post reported.
