WBJ: Wegmans Could Find Home at Fannie Mae HQ Location

So you’re saying there’s a chance?

The Washington Business Journal reported Wegmans is in talks to take over the property of the Fannie Mae headquarters located in the Tenleytown neighborhood of northwest Washington, according to sources close to the situation.

The WBJ said the highly popular grocer would be an anchor to planned redevelopment of the site in the 3900 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest. Fannie Mae is leaving the location for a new along 15th Street, Northwest.

However, the developer told WBJ to be cautious, saying they do not have a deal in place but would be pleased if Wegman’s was one of the tenants. If Wegman’s does find a home on Wisconsin Avenue, it would be the first location for the grocer inside the D.C. beltway.

Currently, they have locations in Alexandria and Fairfax in Virginia and Lanham in Maryland that are closest to Washington.

The property on Wisconsin Avenue was purchased in 2016 by Sekisui House, Japan’s largest homebuilder, and D.C.-based real estate firm Roadside Development. The mortgage company will remain at the location until their new headquarters is complete.
