Virginia American Water Proposes General Rate Increase

Some areas of Prince William County could see up to a 24 percent rate increase

Virginia American Water is proposing a general rate increase for portions of Northern Virginia and that's got at least one county very upset.

The utility wants to raise the overall rate by almost 16 percent, but breaking it down in Prince William County, it will be more than 24 percent for the areas covered by VAW. Virginia Water filed for the increase through the State Corporation Commission which is required to hear reaction from the public. That hearing date isn't planned until September, but Virginia residents can write comments and send them to the S.C.C.

Written comments may be submitted on or before September 18, 2012, to Joel Peck, Clerk, State Corporation Commission, c/o Document Control Center, PO Box 2118, Richmond, VA, 23218. Written comments should refer to the specific case number: PUE-2011-00127.

Those wishing to review the Application or Order for Notice and Hearing and/or submit comments online may do so on the SCC website and scroll down to the case number listing (PUE-2011-00127).
