A Virginia State Police trooper died after a deep-water dive training exercise in Lake Anna, Va.
State Police said Trooper Mark D. Barrett, 41, was having trouble as he and another trooper returned to the surface Tuesday afternoon. The other trooper helped Barrett to the surface and signaled for help.
Barrett was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
He was a member of the State Police Search and Recovery Team, which was conducting an annual training exercise on the Louisa County side of the lake.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
