Virginia Teen on No-Fly List Claims Torture in Kuwait

A Virginia teenager being detained in Kuwait and currently on an American "no-fly" list claims he's been severely beaten during an interrogation.

Gulet Mohamed, a19-year-old Somali-American who lives in Alexandria, said he was detained in December by Kuwaiti officials after trying to get his visa renewed at an airport there. His attorney said the teenager was taken from the detention center by men dressed in civilian clothing and beaten while they asked him questions about possible ties to terrorism.

Mohamed indicated to his attorney that he was hit in the face hundreds of times, that he was hit with sticks on the bottom of his feet and that the torture was frequent.

American officials have not commented about the case but have confirmed Mohamed was placed on a no-fly list and cannot return to the U.S., at least for the time being.
